Hi everyone i have a 90 gallon. I've had the tank up and running for about 5 weeks. For fish i have 3 green chromis, 2 tru perc clownfish and a lawnmower blenny. For inverts i have 2 mithrax emerald crabs, 5 mexican turbo snails, 10 nassarius snails, 5 margarita snails, 2 tiger snails and 10 assorted hermit crabs. For totals i have 22 snails and 12 crabs. I still have a top layer of red algae on my sand and i don't know what else to do to get rid of it. I use wal-mart distilled water not sure if that is one of the things that could be doing it. Its on my rocks to but nothing out of control but what bothers me the most is the sand is there anything i can do to get rid of it?

Is this algae slimy or hard? If it is slimy then it is red slime algae which is bad. It is hard or tough to get off of rocks and things then it is coralline which is good.

It's unusual for a 5wk old tank to catch red slimmy algae.
I think Jfinger is talking about Diatoms.
You might want to switch to a different water source.
Go to a near by life fish store and get DI water from them.
And yes, you need to post your water test result so these people can help you.
