i dont think they actually have them. after the females have them they transfer them to the males, and start over. since they dont have to carry them, they can right away start makin more. this allows them to have twice as many babies.

yes the males do actually carry them and gives birth
The female transfers the eggs to the males pouch and he carries them until delivery and then goes thru "labor" to expell the babies from his pouch....really interesting to see btw!!!!

But depending on the species of horse the gestation is anywhere between 14-30 days I believe. HTH's

The male is considered the male because once the eggs (from her ovaries) enter his pouch, his sperm enters the egg. So, because she donates the egg and his sperm enters the egg, he is the he and she is the she!
There is some thought that the point of conception (the sperm entering the egg) happens in the water column and his opening his pouch creates a suction effect to pull them into his pouch. But, when you watch it, it appears she extends her ovipositer (seahorse lingo for female

[hr]
!) into his pouch during the mating ritual. It is amazing to witness.

The other neat thing is that each fry has it's own yoke sac. As the fry get bigger they start to wiggle, just like human babies. This really starts to hinder the Father's swimming!!! I saw this often with my ponies(dwarf seahorses)!!!
