Why is live rock "rinsed"???

Doesn't that kill all the bacteria on it and make it useless?

Rinse it in saltwater. Then you don't risk loosing that much.
You rinse it to get off and out crud and junk that has died inside the holes of the rock. If you use tap water or unsalted fresh water I would say you stand more of a chance of killing of the Benifical Bacteria.

I'd rinse with saltwater but it's done to rid of junk as stated earlier......Rinsing in freshwater can be done and isn't great, but isn't detrimental as you might think........
