I am cycling a 30 gl hex , I have 45 pnds of live rock with 2 damsels,
3 turbo snails and 5 teeny tiny snails ( I don't know what they are called)
I have been cycling for 3 weeks - 25 pds of the live rock was just added last week. My tank still has a bit of a yellow look to it - it is clear but has a yellow cast - could this be my lighting or is it just all the rock or could it be something else? I want to put more fish in - I thought my 5 & 7 year old boys would be the ones that are impatient waiting for the fish to be able to be introduced - they are fine - it's me that can't wait !!

Is it all of the water that is yellow or stuff growing in the tank? Try another light, any light and see if you can see any of that. Where did you get your SW from?

The yellow cast could be from your lights, what temp is your bulbs? You also could use carbon to polish up your water.

Thank you for replying.
I have probably a cheap light - the box says: flourescent model 15" aquarium tube. 14 watt tubular bulb.
When I take the water out and put it in a baggy it is clear.
I think SW means saltwater, right? I made my own SW with instant ocean. Then a week ago did a 25% water change using a box of ocean water I got at my LFS.
Here is a list of the equipment I'm using.
Stealth 100 watt submersible aquarium heater.
Aquaclear Power filter for 10 -30 gallon aquariums ( formerly Aquaclear 150) filter 150 gph.
profile powerhead 600 (for aquariums up to 30 gallons)
You mentioned something about carbon to make the water sharper. Does this go in the filter? I was reading on a site that people put small bits of live rock in the filter? Is that true - why?
I bought my live rock from saltwaterfish.com and it was pre cured. I just rinsed it with salt water that I sifened from my tank when I got it to get off the excess sand and damp paper wrapping that was stuck to it.
I don't have much growing in the tank. I have been feeding the fish
brine shrimp.
I will go out this afternoon and buy a new brighter light. I will also take some water in and have it tested. I really am having a hard time finding someone who I feel knows what they are talking about at the fish store.
Everyone there seems to be giving me different answers and they also don't seem to really be into fish and are there as just a job, they could work at McDonalds and be just as happy.
This is all the info, I think, that I know about my tank.
The damsels and snails seem to be doing well and are very active.
I also don't have a background color to my tank it is acrylic and is just clear all the way around. What do people do besides a fake platstic seaweed wallpaper background?
Thank you so much for your suggestions

Hiya,
Some folks paint the back of their tank black or blue. There's also a blue back cover you can buy. I used this, but am not completely happy with it. I didn't know you were supposed to wet it first then apply it.
