"WASHINGTON – Yielding to election year reality, the Senate passed a bill Thursday to deny members of Congress a built-in pay raise next year.
Russ Feingold, D-Wis., engineered the surprise passage of the legislation, which would deny senators and members of the House an automatic pay raise of about $1,600 next year. Members of Congress make $174,000 a year.

The Senate passed the measure unanimously without a roll call vote. The House has yet to act on it, but probably will go along given election-year pressures.

I don't begrudge what congress members make but it's the money they spend on bloated staffs and needless travel that frosts me. Add to that all these stupid positions they create. Now Obama is creating a gulf Czar to make sure the clean up gets done. Hello, isn't that why we have an Environmental Protection Agency?

Screw that, they should make minimum wage just like waiters do and live off tips. I begrudge every dime they make. As far as Pelosi is concerned, the Bay area has a nice abandoned Nike missile complex that she can use for free.

You gotta pay enough to attract good people. I think the real money savings should come from staff cuts.

why does she need an 18K a MONTH office space???? I don't get it. Thats just for rent. Factor in her worker bee's and it is just even more crazy. It kinda goes back to her demanding a private jet from D.C to Cali. Who da hellz does she think she is? Really....... just another wack job that has a job the WE are her boss, but she thinks ( like many other politicians) that THEY are the boss.

The higher ups do pretty well but I know my son is getting shot at for 2300.00 a month plus combat pay and about 1100.00 housing allowance. It isn't that bad of pay but not enough to make it a financially rewarding career considering the risks. If he stays in another 4 or 5 years it would probably be a pretty good gig but they wont change his station so he's probably out in 2013, JUST LIKE OBAMA!!!!
