Why put skimmer in sump?

I'm thinking if it leaks would be better to have in sump? New so not sure. I'm trying to decide if it would be better to have an in-sump skimmer or outside the sump. :notsure:

it looks cleaner. and there are better ones that sit in a sump rather then hob

Is that the only ones, hob (hang over back, is that right) and in-sump? I thought I saw some that would sit right next to the sump.

I'm guessing a hob is fine in a sump also. Can you put the skimmer anywhere in a sump, or does it have to be in the middle.
If I transfer my skimmer to my sump(soon going refugium) I want to put it on the far right in the mag drive chamber...
I have a megaflow model 3 sump if you want to see what it looks like.

I've actually never seen them in the middle, always to the right. But I could be wrong.
