I have a feather duster that has been in the tank for about nine months, I also have another feather dust in the same tank. last night I noticed the feather had came off. does this mean he's dead or will he come back. what would cause him to do this? :notsure:

it's fine. they do this when spooked and stuff like that. it'll grow back in a couple weeks. if you see your hermits eating it then it's most likely dead...

ok good, I'll keep an eye on it, so far nobody is eating on it, it's just closed up. Thanks

Mine pop it head last week. Last night there was a new one coming out. It is real small and spooked real easy. But I sure was happy to see it come out.

I've been lucky, only the little ones do it now and again, I have a pretty white and red one but he wound up under a rock and my wife keeps telling me to dig him out and I won't do it, because I know he'll pop his top. I've done it once, w/ success and he's back under there, so thats where he wants to live I guess. Of course the drab brown one lives out in the open, thats par for the course

I bought one a few weeks back and on the trip home it abandoned it's tube and it's feathers. I put him in the tank and a week later (after thinking it had died) I found him sporting a hew tube and top. Of coarse it's under the rocks and facing the back of the tank!
