Why?

Does Oscar get preferntial treatment? There is a thread for political discussions, yet he keeps reminding us how much he does not like the President. Should his discussions not go into the political discussion thread? Or at least start one "I hate Obama" thread and he can post there.
FYI I stopped postine here because of the political turds and I heard that it had calmed down. Yet since I have started checking back in I see that there is constantly an anti-Obama thread on here. It gets old seeing the same thing.
Mods a suggestion would be to make a sub forum of the aquarium where all the contoversial topics could be discussed there. Then it could be a hands off Limbaugh love fest.

I agree with you Scotts. I didn't vote for Obama, but I don't feel like trashing him either. I just skip over those kinds of threads. Don't let them bother you, just don't open them. If no one replied to them, they would go away.

the politiheads still dont realize they have their own thread... i keep reminding em but they are too wrapped up in their personal agenda to pay any attention... its all good though, there are very few if any replies to Oscars threads so they just fall to the bottom quietly... if he posted that stuff in the stickied Obama thread it would stay at the top so everyone could see!!!

I agree to ignore the threads, but still you have to see the title everytime you look here and it gets old. It is the same old stuff.
Jennifer, BTW My daughter (Who you helped me with info about buying her flute) is going to be an freshman next year in High School. She auditioned and got into the top band there. One of only 8 freshman to do so, she beat out kids older than her. We are completely stoked and she is still walking on cloud 9. Her goal is to take all the plugs out of holes in her flute by the end of summer so she starts the band with a true open hole flute.

D, that is why I think there should be a controversial sub-forum of the aquarium. You could call it "the Detritus". Then all the topics could be discussed there and it should be more lightly modded than the regular foums. Of course there would be a warning posted everytime you go there so you know the language and topics could be a little rough. Or heck let them MOD it themselves. Let Darth and Bionic be the mods. Then the 6 people that respond to those threads could call each other idiots all day long and let the rest of us be in peace.

That is great!!! Tell her to just take them all out at the same time. It isn't that hard to adjust. It will be faster if she justs adjusts to the open holes at the same time. She should be playing with her fingerprint, not the tip of her finger. If she is doing that, than it won't make a difference at all. It will just feel a little funny at first. In fact, when I got my open hole flute, it didn't come with plugs, so I didn't have a choice. Also, tell her to practice her major and minor scales. All major flute music is based off of the scales and it will give her an advantage that I am sure the other kids won't have. I hated the scales, but I wish I would have know before I got to college how important they are. It would have helped me tremendously in high school competitions! Congratulations again, I'm very happy for her. I remember how that feels!

I see two threads that Oscar started on the front page and one is about health care. If the board was filled with them then I would say something about it. We are not going to move all of the little random threads that pop up though. I started the stickied political thread at a time when there were few posts that didn't have to do with politics and many of them were about the exact same thing. I don't particularly enjoy the political threads either but some other people do. They may not like threads about special soaps or puppies. We can't single out a certain group of members and banish them from discussing subjects that they enjoy.
I don't agree on a sub section that allows even more "rough" subject matter than already slips by. If we did that then we may as well not bother to moderate the rest of the boards. There are plenty of sites where people can discuss whatever they would like. This isn't one of them. We certainly are not going to invite people to post "detritus" and mod it even less.

Sep, thanks for the reponse. The reason for this thread was really much more narrow and it got expanded. I thought that the political chat should go on in the Political threads thread. I continually see Oscar starting political threads and I did not think that right. Sure he has one on healtcare, but I am sure that it has an anti-Obama slant, considering that Obama is currently trying to "reform" the health care issue.
I understand how my idea for a sub-forum came off wrong. I meant more that if there are members here who have a desire for contoversial subjects there should be a place for them to air their views. And to ease the load on you mods to let some of the people who do would participate in that type of conversation watch over that forum. I did not mean for a place where all things were allowed. Just a place where lively discussions were allowed.
You see threads asking "where has everyone gone?" "What can we do to up the numbers of this place?" Well many people have been driven away by the vocal conservative minority of this place. Once again I am expanding the scope of this thread. Heck it just may be time for me to go back in hiding again.

Love ya Scotts, but I still don't get why people care....If you don't like certain types of threads, why open them? I get sick of people asking "Can I keep a Clown Trigger with Nemo in my 25 gallon?" But I don't worry about or leave because of it.
Do we have to have Sports discussion limited to one thread too?

Actually, the Aquarium was supposed to be the place for all the off-topics, whatever they may be.
I agree that several topics of the same thing need to be closed off, but, so far, we haven't banned the political discussions.
Why not just by-pass any topics you don't like rather than stop posting? I hope most people at SWF are here for the fish forums, and don't choose to leave just because of particular topics in the Aquarium.

Ok Ok I am going to say it, I voted for Obama and I think he is doing an Ok job. There are you all happy.

Actually I was out shopping with my daughter and felt bad about the little-whiney-boy-I-am-leaving thing. I am just sensitive to it because this place has taken a decidely conservative view. In all honesty that is cool and I don't care. The problem is that it has come at the cost of being a decidely negative liberal view. Think about, when was the last time we talked about the pros of recycling. Nope on this board you get a thread titled "calling all eco-nuts." Well as someone who has changed all my lights to flourescents and is now starting to take my own reuseable bags to the supermarket I can only say I don't like the negative connotation this forum has.
KJ, You know there are other forums where all the sports talk has it's own subforum. I could completely understand that happening here and I would also completely support it. BTW remind me to tell you about the free clubs my wife and I got. We have an in at Titleist/Cobra.

As long as I am bitching, and this is thread has in no way been directed at the mods, you all are bitched at because you enfore the rules and then bitched at because you do not enforce the rules enough. I understand it is tough. You all are aces in my book.

I have fun with it honestly, and I'm decidedly liberal myself. I enjoy the debate and find the members here to be largely very respectful and their points of view to be thought provoking.
I belong to other fora where the bent is mostly liberal, and others still where it's pretty much a flame fest. Boring on both counts.
If everything were kept to one thread, it'd get entirely unmanageable from both a mod's and a poster's perspective.
Don't take a thread title personally. It's the internet.

I'm mostly here for the fish. What happens in the Aquarium stays in the Aquarium.
