Hello every one, I'm new to the saltwater set up. What I'm mean by that is my ex had a saltwater tank and I just fell in love. I help with the up keep and maintence but never the set up process. I'v read several differnt articals and spoke with aleast 3 different shop. I fell pretty good about this, but i'm still nervous. I want so many different fish. I want a lion, i must have a eel and a grouper.a tigger, and a tang. I only have a 55 gallon tank for now, but i want so many different fish. Am i greedy or what? can this be done in a 55 gal with happy fish. I've had a snowflake eel, a grouper and a puffer in the past. If i do the eel again i want a ghost ribbon eel, if I do a grouper I have to wait see it first to know, the lion will be a gwarf, Tang Blue hippo and finaly the trigger will be a black trigger. Can this be done. I luv aggresive fish. I miss the fish more than I did my ex. I think he murderd them!!Any one who could input on this please do!!!!!!! so many choices

Did you find your lion?
Be very careful if you are going to move the rock around looking for the lion, they can sting even after they die.
Zebra and fuzzy care is basically the same, if you have not found your lion, drop in some ghost shrimp (feed the shrimp something nutritional first), see if it will come out to eat.

thanx for asking lioness...
thank god..i did find him..he was upside down under a piece of drift wood..only caught a lglimpse of a little fin.. ALIVE!! is what's important..
now the feeding.. I threw in about 6 ghost shrimp.. I did not see him go for any of them..they are missing though so i'm hopin he got them..
i tried some krill on the end of some bamboo sticks but nothing..and i actually dropped the krill and the current made it hit my lion on the head and the lion didnt move..
just happend to come in tonight at about 11 and he was acually out perched on a rock (the lights have been off...noctunal lion??)..so i thought here's my chance to feed him some krill on with my tongs..
so i jiggled the krill in front of him and my lion just kinda flared up a little then turned around and went behind another rock..(moody..worst than a cat)
basically i'm confused..i glad he is alive..tested my water and all was well.. now i'm scared he'd starve..the people at the LFS said he fed him with tongs and krill..
are these guys smart enough to NOT eat too much??

IMO your tank is WAYYY to small for all these fish. Tangs need to be kept in at least a 125g. I know its not what you want to hear... im just trying to save you some hassle and money in the long run....
Good luck... I hear ya though.
DaddyJamma keep us posted about the lion... Him eating is the most important thing right now... Try feeding him lots of variety and often. If you dont know what the store you bought him from was feeding him i would call and ask.
Good luck!

not that long ago someone on here asked about drift wood, they were told to take it out because it will wrought ( sp), and couse you levels to go way off
you might do a search for it, but if it were me i wouldnt chance it

Maybe still settling in, try feed again when the lights are out, it will adjust overtime. If your lion is Young, feed every 2 - 3 days right now, which makes it tough to wean in the meantime, try the frozen daily, if it does not eat, use the ghost shrimp, make sure you feed the ghost shrimp something nutritional first.
If this lion is young, don't starve it to long in between feedings, this is where many lose them, a young lion can starve pretty quick in a tank. When you get it on frozen, you will be better off feeding a small amount daily, once the lion starts to mature, than you can feed to every 2-3 days.

My Fuzzy was a bit funny getting to eat first too. I got her to eat by putting small live peppermint shrimp on a feeding stick. I don't know that it was the best method but it worked for me. Then I switched over to Krill. Now a couple months later she eats Krill, Mysis, Prime Reef and doesnt need the feeding stick. When geting mine to eat I found it best not to make quick movements with the food.
Also, mine hid for the first week and only came out at night. I was bummed and thought if this is their behavior she is coming out. Now she swims around freely.
Hang in there. Your Lion will soon be your favorite fish in your tank!!!

SWF.com has em here at 5 for $18. I only fed the peppermints a couple times to get my Lion used to eating from the feeding stick. Worked out well for me.

I bet it's because they are from the carribean right around here. My sis in law is from the keys where they would pull them in by the boat-load. Ricordia Florida's are also dirt cheap here as well.
