I am developing a 90 gallon aggressive tank and I want to add snails to asssit with keeping it clean and the deritus gone. Will the lion eat the snails or hermit crabs if I add them or will they be safe with their shells?

Shouldn't hurt the snails, but my lion ate my crabs,...if there hermits..they might be ok...but i know just normal crabs he'll most likely eat.....mmmm meal!

if they are in a shell are they safe? I was thinking a lion would scoop them up and crush the shell, are they that fierce?

my lion doesn't mess with any of my inverts. i got a million hermit crabs, couple snails, and one blood shrimp. i think he would eat the blood shrimp if he knew it was in there but the shrimp made a cave and my fish pull in there sometimes to get cleaned.

Lions are not reef safe because they will eat shrimp. Hermits and snails are absolutely safe. I have never seen a lion even attempt to eat a hermit or snail. Feather dusters, and even crabs should not be a problem. Lionfish are a little dangerous towards small fish, so if you do not have shrimp or small fish (pseudos, dottybacks, tiny gobies, etc.) in your reef, they would not be a problem.

accually I have a lion in my reef.he doesnt bother anything but he is small 4 -5 inches as long as no other fish will fit into his mouth he wont eat them as he gets bigger I will have to move him into another tank.he does not bother with my shrimps crabs or others cleaners.but another nore for not realy being reef safe is the room he will need to swim in most reef tanks are cramped with LR and corals which could injure your lion.place with caution make sure he has plenty of swimming room.

My lions don't bother my hermits or snails. Remember, lions are predatory fish, not aggressive. They will eat anything that can fit in there mouths. Mine ate a nice pseudochromis that I thought was out of the tank. OOOPS!
