Will a skimmer help cycle a tank faster?

I have one but didn't want to start running it for afew more days. I am putting in power heads, LR and LS in today, and HOB emperior. Anything else, oh yeah, the cocktail shrimp.

a skimmer just gets crap out of the tank. the only way it willl help cycle is if you have media or bio-balls in the skimmer.

You shouldn't have a skimmer running while you are cycling. You don't really need it for a few more weeks.
