Will A Volitan Lion Try To Eat These?

I know I cant have any small fish or shrimp in with volitans cuz they will be lunch in no time.
I like pom pom crabs and other crabs, would they become lunch to? Should I stick to snails, hermits, and stars for clean up?

I never had my volitian eat ony of my CUC, i had several hermits and an emerald crab and lots of snails.
He ate everything else I ever put in there though :)

as mentioned, i find that lionfish ignore, starfish, cukes, hermit crabs, and urchins. These can be your clean up crew.
Small ornamental crabs and shrimp are frequently slurped up w/ abandon. A pom pom crab will do nothing but hide in your rockwork and you'll never see it w/ that lionfish in there.

Hi,

Is the eating of shrimp and CUC the only issue with them? Are they reef safe otherwise, I never had one and was just wondering?

Lions will eat pretty much what fits into their mouths...fish or ornamental crustaceans are all fair game for them. Frank coined a great phrase for them: "reef limiting", which means that you need to limit your lion's reef tankmates to species that can't be eaten or those which may pick on the lion.

Snails and hermits are fine as CUC, as well as the critters Frank mentioned.

Other than that, they usually make great additions to a reef as they really have no interest in sessile inverts.
