Will critter cages hold water?

Everything I have read and been told about the typical critter cage is its identical to an aquarium except perhaps for some sizes, and they do not make any warranty as to it being water tight.....That said, I have a 46 gal and 65 gal critter cage thats held water for years now without a problem. OPNe in particular had a series of holes drilled in it for adjustable vents which were 3" in diameter all across the back side and both ends. I made acrylic plugs and sealed them with silicone and o-rings and its yet to leak a drop.....I bought a 29 gal bona fide aquarium that leaked like a sieve....The frames and glass thickness are the same on critter and fish tanks from what I have seen.....and have to think its the care they take in assembly with the sealant.

I believe the thickness in the glass. The above poster may have had good luck, but with thinner glass, it wouldn't take much of a rock mishap to cause a large problem. And yes, refugiums have rock.

DO NOT USE IF IT HAD A REPTILE IN IT other then that it would work fine. or just use a tupperware container

i found 2 30gal glass aquariums at a flea market , both for 20 bucks. since then i have seen a ton more for cheap, look around I bet you find something better. Agreed...they will hold water, but one little slip with a rock and youll have 30 gallons of water soakin through your floor!.
