as of right now i have a 20 gallon high with 202 watts of PCs (my first tank of any kind setup since ~6-1-03) if you look at the picture below you can see there are softies mid-way to top of the tank (i cant move them)....
now for the question.....do you think the softies can adapt to a 250 watt MH HQI DE 20K buld....i plan on making a DIY hood that will fit the 250 MH and 130 watts of PCs along with some serious fans to tank care of the heat.....i plan on having a bigger tank some day so im buying some of the hardware piece by piece so i dont want to purchase 175 watt MHs.....
if the softies will adapt i could acclimate them to the MH one of two ways>>>
1. Turn the MH on for ~10 minutes every 2 hours a day and each week increase that by ~5 minutes.
2. turn the MH on for a full 10-12 hours with many layers of screen blocking a certain percentage of light and remove one layer of screen a week increasing the percentage of light until 100%
but I just don’t know if the softies will even be able to adapt to the 250 watt bulb being up that high in the tank…… so that’s why I ask you if its EVEN possible and if so are any of those options above going to work….if not please give some suggestions or just tell me im smoking crack and it’s a bad idea to start with
