Will More LR help...

So, given my current stocking level (which is slightly high) - will more LR help keep my tank safe? Or am I good and just do my maintenance and watch it grow?
50 gal long, 55lbs LR, 65lbs Sand, Fluval 304, Skilter...
1 Juvenile Purple Tang
2 Percula Clowns (Common)
2 Yellow-Tail Damsels
1 Yellow-Head Sleeper Goby
1 Scooter Blenny
5 Snails
4 Shrimp
1 Serpent Star
7 Hermits

I have about 55 lbs in my 29 gallon and still would like to add more. You have all the right equipment and your ls is helping with the filtration but IMO I would add some more. It wouldn't hurt and it would definitely help. If you don't feel comfortable with the amount you have now you can buy small amounts at a lfs until and slowly add it until you feel it's better stocked.

personally i would add moe rock but make sure you get cured LR or you will cycle your tank again.

*slaps head* duh. Nitrates, right. Ummm last time checked around 40. FOWLR & some inverts. I'll test the levels and add to the post... thx

Well, I'll haveta get back on this one. Just found out my Nitrate tabs are expired (darn it) -- just bought them -- and they read zero. No way the tank is at zero. My guess (hope 40) maybe 60.
Ammonia is zero
Nitrite is very very trace -
I'm cycling a 20 to extra cure the LR

Just wondering why do you hope that your Nitrate's
are at 60,i still learning this hoppy and i thought that they were to be 0 or atleast close
to it.If i'am wrong sorry.

she is just battling outher problems,a nd is stating that she hopes they are only 60 and not hgiher, thinking if the kit is bad, hopefully she is not in deep doo doo, that is all, and yes you want your nitrates lower, and zero is the target of most of us, but wiht some critters some trates are a good thing, for food too

adn sandy, more lr definitely won't hurt your set up, unless you like the look right now, and curing it extra as you put it is a good idea, not only for trate, trites and ammonia, but you can keep an eye out for unwanted critters too for a while, just in case

Hi FOQ - yes, what fshhub said that is what I meant... I hope they are not higher. Fshhub tanks again! So far we are all good. I'll get the levels tested today. (I'm sneaky... I go to two lfs just for confirmation). My trites were so close to zero... so close... so I'm crossing my fingers. Everyone is healthy and happy s'far as I can tell. I'm moving the 20 gal inside today.
