Your tank should not be filled to the brim. It should not be higher then the plastic trim around the top. if it is acrylic, it should be about 1" or so from the top.
They will not crawl out if the depth is fixed.

I have seen my turbos and narssius (sp) snails crawl out of the water and over into the overflow tank. I have a all glass aquarium reef ready. I have to pick them out of the overflow and put them back in the main part of the tank once a week or so.

My snails climb out of the water all of the time. I don't move them because I figure if they are uncomfortable they will go back into the water which they always do. I have never seen one outside of the tank. Just on the wall out of the water. They always go back in when they are ready.

only found 1 dried up 1...guess he wento down the wrong side of the tank trying to find the water lol
