Will T-5 lights work with keeping a Crocea Clam

I have the 6 bulb nova extreme pro fixture with the individual reflectors. I was going to be keeping it up higher up in the tank. Would this not be a good idea or should I just try to get a less light demanding clam. I have the clam on hold at my lfs for $45. I feel it a good deal. You can't find them that cheap on the Internet. Please let me know.

I have a 75g. And a 48" nova extreme pro. The guy at the pet store said it should be ok. They are not like most pets stores. They let you kno the truth and don't just want to make a sell. Well I am going to pick it up today. I will post some pics when I get it acclimated.

yes, it will work. i hv the same fixture 6x54w pro over a 72, with 3 crocea 2 dersas and 1 squamosa. the croceas hv been in the tank for 1 year. the derasa 10 months, and squamosa 1 month. i'd change out the t5 bulbs after 4-6 months to either ati or giesemann. also make sure the calcium and alk r at proper level .

No, that's just my opinion.
This is only based on a couple of things. Croceas have extremely narrow branching Zooxanthellae Tubular Systems. Zooxanthellae, as far as I know, can change size. Problem is that they are restricted to certain sizes in the ZTS system of a Crocea. Now they may try to grow to absorb the small amount of PAR energy that they can, but won't get it (because of restriction in max size). This causes them to reproduce and begin fighting for light or placement in the clam’s mantle. It can take months or years before they start actually competing with the clam itself for ammonium or nitrogen if they need a second source of food to survive.
If you still want to chance it, 10K bulbs usually give the best chance of survival by reproducing natural light.
AND WHY CAN I NOT SEE AVATARS? Is there some sort of new switch I need to flip?

A Crocea would be fine under t5 lighting IMO. I kept mine the first 4 years I had it under 220 watts of PC lighting in a 40 gal breeder. It was high up in the tank, did great, grew. About a year or so ago I switched to an Aquactinics TX5 fixture, and it's still doing well.

I am not arguing its current health, I am mearly saying that a higher perch may be better for the crocea in the long run as it should'nt have to reach that much for light. Its a nice clam, but you should not see were the mantle extends from the shell like that. Also, love that squammy, did you get it local?
