I bought some copper covered LR from a fish store about a month and a half to 2 months ago. It had been in a tank that had been treated with copper prior to being sold. they had left it out of water, so the rock was dead, i was using it as baserock trying to turn it into live rock.
They recommended not putting it into a tank that had coral, and at the time i didnt plan on putting coral in the tank. I Have just moved my stuff into a new tank and am now wanting coral in the tank. Will therock treated with copper damage any coral that i put in the tank? Should i just avoid putting coral on the rock that had been treated? or since its been around a month and a half to 2 months should i be ok?

Hard to say but I'd avoid putting any corals or inverts into the tank. I believe they sell test kits for testing copper lvls, I'd probably start there and see what the lvls are.

the rock is useless for a coral tank. the metal (copper) has leached into it and will slowly be released, into lower content water (read as if you water coper content is lower than the rocks copper will leach into the water) obviously this is a finite amount but your better off selling the rock to some one that wants FOWLR and doesnt have to worry about inverts or coral.

get a test kit to make sure there isnt already too much copper in the water and do water changes as needed to remove it and you should be fine. just make sure you get all the affected rock out.

its, ok, patience is key. after you get the copper out of your water you should probably still wait a couple weeks before adding any coral. test your water again to make sure your in the clear. believe me, its a lot easier to realize you forgot one rock than it is to wake up to 10 dead and dying corals.
