wimpy bulbs

I have a question about the bulbs that come with the nova extreme pro light fixtures. I saw on a thread here ( which I have been unable to find again) that they are really really not good. In fact, the graph that was shown on that thread made these bulbs appear to be practically useless. can anyone explain why please.?

I cannot comment specifically on this particular fixture, but it's not at all uncommon for manufacturers to put cheapo chinese knockoff lamps into their fixtures.
I think of it like those crappy batteries that come with remote controls when you buy a new DVD player, etc. They don't last long at all. They are really just there as "starter" batteries to get your new piece of equipment up and running, after which you'll buy better batteries that last as they should.
Same with lamps in fixtures. They are there so they can say "lamps included," but the lamps don't often last long, so you should plan on a lamp change with some decent lamps within a short time of getting the new fixture.

Well, in that case I may go with Tek lights. I found a place that they come with geisman(sp?) bulbs for not many more $$. I see that they have a 4 foot long fixture with 8 bulbs for around $700. Would this work over a 125 that is 6 feet long?

I have that fixture on my 90 gal. Great light! But you do have two extra feet that is not going to get great light. Are you planing on hanging the fixture?

Thats what I'm wondering about. I cant find one of that brand that is 6 ft. should I get 2 smaller ones?
Yeah, that's what you'll need to do. I am pretty sure that they don't even make 6' T5 lamps, and if they do, they'll be very rare and the lamps will be very hard to find in the future.

for a 6 feet tank, u will need a 12x39w fixture. the bulbs that come with the nova pro should be changed out after 6 months to better bulbs such as giesemann or ati.

ati makes 60" and they are the best fixtures on the market, they are from 715-849$ but well worth it, u will only need the 6 bulb for ur tank also
