wiring canopy fans

Anyone know how to wire small fans(120v ac), say the kind from Radio Shack, into a canopy. It looks like the fan has 2 black wires coming out of it. Can you just wire them into a power cord? Or is there something else you have to buy to wire it correctly?
Mr. Salty-
I read in previous posts that you just bought small 3" desk fans for your canopy? Where in the world did you find that small of fan? I've ran all over looking for small desk fans, but the smallest I've found is 7", a wee bit too big.
Thanks!

I found mine at a store called BIG LOTS,but I'm sure K Mart or siminlar stores would have them..Maybe an office supply store...But to answer your Question,,YES,Just wire a plug on to them...Or you could tap into the wire leading to your lights. Then they would turn on and off with the light...I plugged mine into the timers so they come on and off with my lights....One last note,,,Test the fan before you install it to make sure that it is blowing the way you want...

I just bought a clip-on fan from Wal-Mart, ~$7. Yes, it's the 7" and too big to fit into the hood, but I clipped it to the back edge (my whole back is open) and aimed it in. Cooled things right down. My new VHO's were heating up the lid of the hood a little too much for my comfort and now everything is fine.

Just a few more questions so I don't burn down my house. Does it matter what wire on the fan goes with what wire on the plug? Also, where do you connect the ground wire from the plug to the fan? Do you just put in under a mounting screw? Thanks again.

You can put the ground there, but it's probably not needed.I would just try a two wire plug first. If this does not work, then go with the grounded plug...As far as the other two wires go,Just hook them up.It probably doesn't matter. But try hooking them up both ways and see if the fan blows the same both ways...Somtimes(depending on how the fan motor is wired) reversing the polarity will also recerse the direction the motor turns. This may come into play with your mounting decision...
