With a sump do I need my canister anymore?

I have an ehiem currently running my 155, and I just got my overflow box off ---- today, finishing off all my equipment needed for my sump.
Simply, and stupid question..
With the sump up and going with the fuge in the center, will I still need my canister? Or can I take it off once everything is up and running? I know they have been known for holding nitrates, so I'd rather get rid of it...

help?

No, you wont need it once the refug is going.
No question is a stupid question, only the unasked. If you do some research and don't find what you are looking for, then you must ask. Good Luck.

No you don't NEEED it...
..However a well maintained canister does not hold nitrates. That said...a canister does hold different types of media like carbon to prevent corals from using chemical warfare on each other, and purigen to keep phosphates down. They also create great flow on the water surface when used with a spray bar.

you can use all the different kinds of filter media found in your canister filter in your sump including purigen and carbon
