With regards to bubbles in tanks!

Hey, I was trolling around this forum and I found a few posts about bubbles being bad. The water being pumped back into my tank from my canister is creating a significant amount of bubbles, should I lower the return "stick" lower so it touches the water and will stop the flow of bubbles? (Despite the guide that says to hang the pipe about 1/4" off from the water surface) Thanks!

yes try to eliminate the bubbles as much as possible the micro bubbles can lodge in the gills of fish and cause irrations and respiratory issues. bubbles are good in FW but not good in a SW tank.

microbubbles are not so good, but I don't see them damaging gills or leading to respiratory issues. Macrobubbles, heh, I could care less.
One of the reasons why you don't want microbubbles in tanks, is that it can cause certain problems and death with long tentacled (feathered) starfish.

my personal experience was with puffers and seahorse both of which died because of resperitory problems fom swiming in the bubble lines when I first started. it wasnt a good site to watch and nothing I could do to help them either.
never had that problem after getting rid of the problems.
