**see synopses at bottom for tip if you don't want to read the story haha
Finally after about 6 months my purple long tentacle anenome is hosting my black and white clown! I have just about tried everything to get my clowns into the anenome and nothing worked for awhile, but I do think I have a method that finally worked (and I tried a lot haha)
Firstly I have an orange and white and a black and white ocelarus clown both similar in size when the anenome was introduced. (IMO this is what took so long for them to go into the nem). For my first attempt I had posted a picture of two clowns in a LTA nem for about a month. Nothing. Second attempt was to hand feed the clowns then slowly move the food toward the nem and finnally put it on the anenome. No results. My LFS had suggested I put rotifers (spell check/ what clown fish fry feed on) in the tank to get the natural instincts of the fish to kick in. Try again.
All those failed. IMO the first step towards progress was that I played videos of clowns going into a purple LTA for a week and that drew them near in but not into so I gave up on that. Another step in the right direction was my bangal cardinal hovered over the nem within an inch or so almost simulating the symbiotic relationship.
While doing some observations I found the black and white clown was getting considerably bigger than the other and getting more interested in the nem. ( swimming within 2 inches and actually did what looked like a nip at a tentacle) during this time for about two weeks I had moon light directly over the anenome at night which drew them near at night. Last night took a peek and the black and white clown swimming through the tentacles! And for the past two days every time I look she is in the nem swimming about. It's truly rewarding to see the relationship starting to develop. Although only the one clown is hosting. The other swims near once in awhile but doesn't look like its ready to take the plunge. When the black and white clown isn't in the nem they swim together. I guess it will only take more time for the other to join.
** IMO what helped to get nem to host clowns was the visual stimulation and the moon light solely over the anenome. It may take some time but this hobby is all about patience. Just remember it took me 6 months! :hi:
Any questions feel free to ask.
