Firstly, horn sharks are coldwater species, those other fish are not. You also cannot keep triggers with sharks, period. The triggers will chew the sharks cartilage. You could keep two bamboos and a blue-spotted ray in a 500 though. With livestock, livesand (cannot use cc with these fish), liverock, filtration, skimmers, uv sterilizer (if you want one), a heater (not an absolute neccesity, but good to have), and everything else, you are looking at easily over $5000. Darn oh i had no idea about the horn sharks being coldwater well those were really the only ones i wanted but i dont want a coldwaer tank so i gues im thinking of getting a 400 gallon tank with lots of live rock and a picasso niger clown bluejaw and bluelined trigger also maybe a couple of puffers like a porky and a stars and stripes

Puffers and Triggers aren't SUPPOSED to mix...but I have read many threads of people who have successfully kept both, in the same tank. They would be better suited to tell you how than I would. (as in which one to introduce first, how big you should get them, which species of each fish they had etc.) But one thread specifically sticks out in my mind...somoene had a dogface, picasso trigger and a volitan living together in harmony. The only reason I remember this thread is because these are the 3 fish I wanted. Again, although not suggested it has been done. It also depends on the temperment of each of the fishes.

You pretty much have to go custom to get 400-500+ gallon tanks. Go to a search engine and look for custom reef tanks, and you'll find some amazing pics.

I have a valentinin puffer, picasso and a lion together with an SFE. The puffer and picasso both came into the tank on the same day and were about 1.5" long. They're both around 2.5" now. Best of buddies. The lion is bigger than both of them and the SFE is about 9". Other than feeding time when the SFE goes a little nutso, it's a quiet, peaceful tank.
Will it stay that way, who knows? Just sharing that it can work.
Good Luck with your plans and your son!
