Hey guys and girls,
I finally did it yesterday. I've got all my cc out and ls in!! Everyone seems happy right now and all is going well. Everyone is right, it does look more natural and the fish seem happier....even my little hermit crab is just scooting all over the place. Thanks so much for everyones advice and input. Got a wavemaker yesterday as well and now just working on my next step of getting the "right" lighting. Anyone have any suggestions?? I would like to have the morning to night effect with the lunar lights. How many lights of each do I need etc. It's a 37gal cube and it's 20" accross. Thanks so much for this site and all of you wonderful people on it. Don't flame the newbies to much as they get scared to ask questions. BTW, had to share this story with ya'll....my husband went to a lfs and asked about how to get rid of ich...you wouldn't believe what he was told....the guy at lfs told him to put the fish in freshwater, yes I did say FRESHWATER, and then when he started spazzing out put him back in the saltwater. Can you believe??
What are these people thinking....talking about stressing a fish much less that seems really cruel to me. Don't flame me here....I definately know better than to take that advice, that just doesn't seem humane!!

Freshwater dips are actually used by a lot of people for some external parasites.
If you match the temp and pH, it is not as stressful but it is still stressful and there are other methods that work better, but in a situation where you need to give the fish some relief it can work. I don't like that method for Ich, but I have used it for gill flukes and it works well, you just have to be sure the fish is in pretty good shape before hand, because it is very stressful.
In the wild fish with parasites will actually head to the fresh water inlets to give themselves some relief from the parasites.

Actually it is called a frshwater dip and for some parasites and deseases im pretty sure it is recomended. do a search in the desease forum for info on it. my rough understanding of it is. the fish can survive in fresh water longer than the parasite. JMO i have not done nore needed to do one so i have not researched it my self just dredging things from memory that i have read.
Congrats on the switch hope it all goes well

I have done freshwater dips in cases where time was of the essence. I didn't have the QT ready and the fish didn't look like it would last much longer. I did the dip for 1 minute and you could literally watch the parasites falling off. The effects were amazing and the fish was reintroduced to the tank while I set up QT. It showed an obvious and dramatic improvement. I would only reccommend it in dire emergencies, though.
ps I also have had great results with sand, but have never tried cc. Why mess with a good thing?
Sounds like the change is going well. :happyfish

I've been using a freshwater dip with Methylene Blue for 2 - 3 minutes for my new fish before added them to my tank. Fish have tolerated it very well. Have read a lot of pros for these dips but like anything I guess you will see arguments for both sides.

Ya freshwater dips are normal, I have heard that you should give a Tang a freshwater dip before you introduce him to your tank because they get ich so easily
