Wooden airstones, Tell me 'bout 'em

I've seen a few DIY sites with wooden airstone designs. Would a 2" dowel make good airstones? I have heard Oak is a good wood choice. What do ya think? Anyone got any links to sites that sell the screw in fittings? I am going to try a Tetratec Deepwater 24 for air. Looking to try the wooden stones in the protein skimmer I am finishing up.

they are good for skimmers but DONT put them in the tank

The Limewood airstones are the best, but for that skimmer you would probably need to run multiple to get it right...

dont make your own, pay the buck fo a limestone one from ur LFS.
