I seem to mostly be talking to myself on this message board but what the heck, i'll try anyway. i finally got the last bit of rock i'll need the other day..i sure wish now that i had gotten all 225 lbs of it at one time cause now i'm gonna have to take it ALL out and rearrange it. And FINALLY i got a fish....a 6-lined wrasse.....he's so cute! he seems to love all his little tunnels and caves. best thing is..i don't have to feed him! My question is when i decide to add another fish..i'd like it to be another one that isn't too aggressive and who also will get all of its food from the rock. i know there aren't many but i'd like to avoid putting anything in the tank for as long as possible.....so do any of you experts know of any other fish?????? Do you know how big your 6 line wrass will get? We have a mandrin fish that is not agressive and eats from the rock and sand. He doesn't seem interested in the other food I put in but he seems big & healthy from what he is eating. I think your tank has to be well established for this, though. Good Luck!

slow donw, you jsut got your rock in and are adding fish at the same time,
to answer your question, i like scooter blennies and i also like algae blennies, but YOU STILL SHOULD FEED YOUR FISH, the rock worrk sand and pods need time to establish and grow and any algae eaters should be supplimented with different foods, so that they can get all the different things that they need
yes it is possible to build a self sustaining tank, BUT, i don't think it can be done with the last bit o rock and the first fish

I have been going very slow. I have had 175 lbs of cured rock in my tank for 3 months with nothing in there but a few inverts. all i added the other day was 50 lbs of cured rock. there's lots of stuff established on the rock i've had in there for a good while now. the guy who owns the fish store i go to is totally trustworthy. he's had this fish for a few weeks. the fish never ate the food he put in the tank for others because he was always busy on the rock. thanks for the congrats beachbaby!

Well congrats on the fish. I know how you feel. I get excited everytime I add something new to the tank. But it's not really a good idea to just let the fish depend on things in and on your rock because they will eventually deplete the population of pods. There are lots of different fish you could get. Just look around and find something that really catches your eye and then ask around about it.
I would not try a mandarin goby. They are not very hardy. They only eat the pods in your tank. Only on rare occasions have I ever heard of anyone being able to get them to eat anything else. They eventually begin to starve to death.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't gonna get a mandarin goby. They sure are pretty but i know there are just a few lucky people out there with a success story on those little guys. I'm thinking maybe about a couple of little firefish for my next purchase..but it won't be for a couple of weeks. thanks again!

good choice, i love our firefish, they are awesome looking fish and they are relatively easy to keep
