Working in tank...

Do you guys have problems with your fish nipping at you when you mess around in your tank? I am in one corner, minding my own business, then all of the sudden *PINCH* and I whip my hands out and splash water all over the place. It doesn't really hurt, but it is enough for you to react and make a helluva mess to clean up. Does this happen to everyone or are my fish the only ones that bite the hand that feeds them?

yep clowns like to do that when you "invade their space" I have had a huma huma and a harlequin tusk draw blood on me before.

I am starting to experience this as well. Everyone seems to want to know what your doing. I was recently adding some live rock and didn't see my urchin than all of a sudden POKE I dropped the rock and jumped back and when I looked in the tank I started laughing cause my urchin was sitting there. It didn't really hurt just startled me.

Now and then ...... if a giant arm came busting into my family room while I was watching TV, and started moving my furniture around - I'd probably smack at it too.
My fish do the same thing LOL

mine dont for some reason my clown swims around my hand and trys to play with it or something my cleaners chase my around around the tank and try and play with my hand

My Domino swims around my arm, charges then nips me. It doesnt hurt but causes me to remove my arm quickly gettin water all over the place. My tank is near all wall covered with mirrors. I then spend the next 15-20 min getting the mirrors spotless and streak-free.

my clown used to nip me but, shame on me, I kinda thumped him one day and he hasn't really bothered my hand since. I know that sounds horrible, but I think I just scared him, not really hurt him or anything, got a magnetic algae scrubber too that helps out a lot.

My cinnamon clown was mean as hell, he attacked whenever I was in the tank and would give me the "eye" when I would walk by. He went back to the LFS when he drew blood.
A funny note I have a 15year old, I had him move some rock around and I did not tell him about the killer fish. I laughed so hard when he went screaming through the house.

Good point Broomer! Never really thought of it that way!

LMAO Broomer that was great.As mentioned my clown nips me everytime i put my hand in his home the whole time until i remove my arm and the pepps are always interested as well.

I bought BIG UGLY ORANGE AND PURPLE gloves to go IN THE TANK now.......They reach to my upper arms
The peppermints swarm me and I have anemonies and they can sting!
I actually felt like a moron when I was buying them BUT then the guy who worked there told me he bought a pair too and he was pretty MANLY.. so I thought,,,, what the hell, I'm a squimish girl..LOLOL
Also, they keep you from getting anything like perfume or hand cream in your tank.. so.............

Good thinking Kim. I have been majorly considering buying a pair of gloves. Then I will have the last laugh when my fish try to nip me. Hah hah.

i still have scars healing on my arm from my post on this subject some weeks ago ...yeah, i'm a spaz . mean ol' clownfish. and, yes, if a big ol arm came into my living room to rearrange the furniture in such a way as to make it more aesthetically pleasing, to give me better light, or a roomier home, i'd be thrilled. in fact, isn't that what people pay ******** designers big $$ to do? I maintain that clowns are just onery.

All my fish and even the cleanner shrimps bite my fingers when I feed them or clean the tank walls. It's really hurt when I got bit by the trigger So I always watch out for him

i had a false perc who used to do the same thing....my gf would freak out and never wanted to put her hands in the tank after that....it was pretty funny!

i have a little mole on the underside of my wrist...about the size of the tip of a normal headphone jack thing...anyways, my false percs would always nip at that one spot thinking it was a flake of food or something...hahaha....i'm affraid to put my hand in my tank..my emerald crab is humungus and always throws his claws up in the air at me when i walk by...when i was moving a coral after i put my anenome in (he was finding his spot) one my hermits thought my finger looked like a tasty treat so he started to nip at it and i thought it was my emerald crab and that he was going to pinch me with those huge claws....i flung my arm out and got water all over my bed
also, my snowflake eel bit me...i told my girlfriend he wouldn't bite her, and she dangled a piece of krill an inch or two above the surface, and he came up and nipped her pinky!!!!! hahahaha

Imagine what the fish are thinking when they see THOSE bright things coming?? LOL Wonder Y they make them so UGLY?? But they WORK!
