working with NO strip lights

I've got a few NO strip lights that I'd like to use with my DIY canopy. Does anyone know if the "outter black housing" part can be removed so that only the white reflector part, bulb, and starter can be mounted to my canopy?
Does that make any sense?

yes, there usally is 2 ballast mounted under the reflector. But the housing can be removed by the little plastic push pens that run down both sides of the light, I think there are like 6 of them depending on the length of the fixture. HTH
