would 220 watts of PC be ok over a 55 gallon ??

I am no light expert but it depends on what type of corals you want to keep, that could be plenty of light for some types of corals but not nearly enough for others. Try doing a search on lights or lighting you will find tons of info.

Depending on where the creatures will be placed I would say you are good with almost anything execpt for maybe extreme light loving corals.
For high light corals if they are placed high up on the rock work I think your lighting is fine.

I would say with that size tank and that amount of light you should be fine to do just about anything. Just make sure that corals that need more light you put up closer to the top of your tank. Good luck

I ran that same lighting 4x55 pc's over my 55 reef tank for a 1-1/2 years.
IMO - you may get by with keeping corals alive - but personally I did not see the growth of several species - so I am looking to upgrade very soon.
Most of the soft corals .. mushrooms, green/red polyps and leathers did fine.
I would not consider this set up a DO ALL for all corals in general. SPS and your hard coral specimens that demand better lighting will most likely not do as well. They may live - but I don't believe they will grow. Clams - no way.
This is my experience and my opinion.
Toss into the mix (2) 175 watt MH and change your pc's to all true actinics - you'd have a nice set up then. Mr.Salty helped me make this decision, and these are my plans.
Again - my opinion.

HEY BROOMER5,
TRUE BLUE ACTINIC PC'S????? YOU MEAN IT BECOME AVAILABLE NOW???? because in the past debate that the actinic pcs is not efficiently compare to reg to vho actinic. Thing can change by then.
