For a 55g system would you recommend, if any a wrasse? One particularly caught my eye the "twin spot" (coris aygula), but i think this thing gets huge does anyone have info?

I think a twinspot would be ok for a 55g, I dont know if your 55 is a reef or not, but they do like picking on crustations, and small fish..they get a little aggressive

Specific info?
Coris Aygula- Twinspot Wrasse or Clown Coris
*Max length 47.2 inches (ouch!) although few exceed 21.7 inches
*Min aquarium size 180 gallons
*Feed Meaty foods, fresh or frozen seafoods. Live brine, mysis shrimp, live black worms, 3 times a day.
*4 out of 5 aquarium suitability
*Not recommended for reef aquariums, an opertunistic predator that WILL eat snails, crabs, mollusks, shrimps, and urchins. Larger individuals are adept at flipping over corals and rocks.
* From cute bright juveniles, transforms a formitable dark green adult that require lots of swimming space and tankmates that cannot be bullied or eaten. Juveniles also require 2-4 inches of fine sand to bury in at night.
Specific enough? Paraphrased from Scott Michaels "Marine Fishes".
Dude. Go get some books.

I take it back, twinspots get HUGE! I just looked it up in one of my books that say, you need at least a 180G for them.. I have never seen them that big!

Yes they do get big in time. I currently have 2 of them both bought as little bitty babies. The older one is in a 135 and has been there since January of 97 and is now about 7 inches or so and very round. The second is in my 46 gallon since Jan 99 and is about 3 inches now. You can see they don't seem to be fast growers but they are hardy and active eaters. Both tanks have cc and they still bury at night with no problems. As juv the colors are magnificent (they still have the white orange black colors now) but as sated they change to a green color at some point. I do like wrasses and currently have a number such as coris, radiant, oriental, 6 line, cleaners (5),moon faced, plus my 4 hogfish from the wrasse family. They are great hardy active fish who deserve a place in almost any tank.

Thanks for the info. guys...does anyone other than Pufferlover have experience with this wrasse?
Pufferlover: Are they pretty agressive in your aquaria? The one in your 46g, how big was he when you first got him?
Thanks again for all your help.

Both of the twin spots have always been mellow with their tankmates. Both were not quite a inch when bought and were 50 bucks each (not cheap but the store I used then had the greatest healthiest fish I ever bought), The one in the 46 is in with the following fish to give you a idea of what they can be with. Racoon Butterfly, Pecula Clown, 2 cleaner wrasses, bi color blennie, little clown gobie, long nose hawk, and fiji damsel. The one in the 46 is growing now and will have to be moved in the next few months. Also, must agree with Trey on Mexican wrasse, had one a long time ago and it was a great fish too.

Thanks for the info Pufferlover...i think i might take a chance getting one since im not planning on upgrading tanks any time soon.
Where can I get info on the Mexican Rock wrasse...this one sounds a bit more manageable for a tank my size (55g).
Do they sell them on this site?

I have a four spot yellow wrasse (banana wrasse) that I really like. Mostly I like him because he cleaned up a bunch of worms that I got from LR, but he's also very peaceful and gets along with everyone well. He doesn't come out at night, just likes to swim around in the morning and daytime.
