xenia closing up?

I just got a small xenia frag. this is my first coral other than mushrooms, which i have had for years with success. my question is could my xenia be getting too much light, or do i have other problems. the reason i am concerned is that the xenai polyps close up at around 5 every day. i have a 37 gallon tank which is in a sunny window, and the tank has 150watts of VHO lighting. the lights are about 5 inches from the water and the xenia is about 10 inches deep in the tank. the sun comes up at around 6 i suppose, and i turn the vho;s on at around 9 or 10 am., and off at around 10 pm. is this too much light? too long? should the xenia be moved to a lower part of the tank? the mushrooms are at the same level and are doing great. nitrates and ammonia are zero, temperature is in the low 80's.

there is no such thing as too much light for xenia.
But if it's new to your tank, it might take a short while to get use to the tank condition. how long have you had it?
Xenia loves moderate flow and strong light.
This is off topic but not sure if you want sun light to penetrate your tank cuz it's bad.

that is what I was trying to tell you--excess algae growth.
Also, you can't have a control of water temp when sunlight hits the tank. It can be too hot in the summer and will kill stuff in ur tank.

Xenia are very tempermental. Do great in some tanks, do poorly in other tanks.
Also they ship very poorly.
