Xenia colony Help!!!!!!

I have a huge xenia colony and was wondering whats the best way to make it smaller. I need to like prun it but i dont want to kill its or do any harm to it. they guy at the LFS said to just take a razor blade and cut some branches off but should i do that. If some one could help me i would appriacte it. After i get this done if anyone eould like some let me know. I would like to keep them in the tank for a couple weeks after i cut them off so i know they will be ok. If anyone can help me i would appricate it Thank you very much

my mom has a huge xenia colony in her reef tank as well. she, along with many other people on here, just use the razor blade to cut them off, as close to the rock as possible. but they will grow back! they will also move themselves onto other pieces of rock if u place them beside the stalks, which you could take to ur lfs and see if they'll give you credit for.
and the xenias do not ship very well....
