i`ve never had a xenia before and just got one last week. my water tests good (alk & cal) tests i just bought and should be delivered later today. my question is ... the stems the polyps are on stretch out their only the size of spaggetti noodles. this normal or is it stretching for more light ??? everything in the tank is doing GREAT, i just don`t know if thats normal ...
thanks,
steve

Mine streched like that when it moved up from one rock to a higher rock, I think I have a picture of it. After it got a good hold on a new rock the thin part split and it is starting to grow a new stalk.

i mean the stalks that each polyp is on, they stretch out probably four inches, is that normal ? or could they be stretching like that for more light ???

yeah thats normal from my expo. had mine for a few months and it reaches for the light whenever it is on ( it's 400watt 10k ) the coral grows like mad ans splits like a mofo, it's in moderate flow

My Xenia started out kinda stringy but thickened in about 2 weeks. The first shot is the Xenia new and the second is after about 2 weeks.

Your xenia sounds fine. I would not worry about it. My xenia did and does the same thing and it is thriving, as mine has more than doubled in a few months.

Mine does the same as everyones as well...reaches for the light...xenia grow like weeds and you can frag them easily to move them to a diff location...i did that the other day with a razor cut a branch off put it on another rock and its doing fine!!!
