Xenia Question

I am getting a 65G tank soon and have been debating about any corals, I really like the Xenia or at least I think thats the coral I saw at the LFS (it was bright silver and was constantly moving and looked like a Tulip when it was moving). Is this type of coral hard to keep, I'm sure they need an established tank to thrive (so add down the line) but any other things that I should know? Also I was thinking of getting a flame angel will it nip at this coral?
Thx

Sounds like Xenia...Xenia are perfect beginner corals. They are very, very hardy. My personal favorite.
All you need is at least a 50/50 PC lighting to have them, after your tank cycles. No need to wait beyond the cycle for the tank to mature. Feed the tank Kents micro-vert and the like for them to grow.
Flame angels are reef safe as far as I know. Each fish has their own behavior so saying reef safe or not is really up to the fish. Hippo Tangs were always reef safe and I had one eat my Xenia.
Welcome to the site...Happy Reefing!

xenia is a hit or miss for most people. for some, its easy, while for others its hard to keep. the flame needs a well established tank of at least 6 months with lots of rocks.

Xenia can become a problem. I read quite a bit about it on this board and decided to buy it anyway. It adds a great look to your tank, but if it is successful then you will need to find someone to take your frags when you cut it back. This is what happened to mine after 5-months. In the 2nd picture you can only see 1/2, the rest has climbed down the rocks and up the back wall.

on the hit or miss.... I have a friend who pulls them out like weeds. i cant keep one to save my life and my water quality constantly tests better than his. they thrive for a while and then just melt away... good luck though. they are very pretty.

angels will go after softies like xenia more readily than other corals so watch the angel carefully once you add it. And i think xenia tends to like dirty water more than pristine so that is something to think about in regards to really clean tanks.....

As olong as you have good lighting and feed Kents micro-vert or the like the Xenia will do just fine in a nice clean tank.
