I have xenia in my aquarium and i can't stop it from growing. It is like a weed. i have tried scraping it off the rock but it is back within a month. Any ideas on how to get rid of some of it but still keep my rock?
Get a Camel Back Shrimp...it ate all my 3 xenia colonies
Trying to trap the stupid shrimp currently so he'll quit eating my polyps!!!
So...don't REALLY get a Camel Back Shrimp...but they will take care of your xenia problem
Put some pieces of live rock rubble next to the stalks of xenia you want to remove / relocate. Once the xenia has "completely" climbed onto the rubble....remove it. If xenia is removed in this manner, it will not grow back where it was, as long as it's done it on it's own. I've done this quite a few times successfully.
I recall posting this earlier, but cut the colony off with a razor and hit what's left with some boiling water in a syringe. The stuff's a goner.
Of course, looking at the last few posts, I'd trade it off for something better!
