Some xenia are suppose to pulse, not sure what kind you have but this might actually be a good sign. as far as the white it could be from your lights, overexposure can bleach them. What kind of lights do you have and where are the xenia located in associtation with the water surface?

I would say leave the dead ones they might make a comeback because they are a very hardy coral, and try moving the xenia to the bottom of your tank. If they are gettin too much light theyll stay there and be happy and if that isnt the problem theyll move up your rock in search of stronger light. good luck

I have used a scissors and cut off dead stalks of my pulsing xenia with no ill effects to the rest of the coral
