I'm putting together a 125 fish with live rock setup..what's the quietest...is that a real word?? Anywayz :D ...What's the quietest pump that would be good for that system?? I'm thinking mag 7 or mag 10.. I've got a $200 budget for the pump. Anybody with a noiseless pump please reply.

From my personal experiences with mag pumps, I have found them to be pretty quiet. I also have heard that quiet one pumps are good too. For that size tank i would suggest getting at least a mag 12 or something comperable to it. And like squidd said do you want a submersible pump or an external one?

Hi, thanks for the help, I'm using my brother's account btw cause he's already signed on....
Doesn't actually matter cause I can plumb it according to the pump.
I'll be running a wet/dry or fuge system but like i said before, doens't matter as long as its super quiet.
thanks

I run 2 mag 9.5s for over three years. Had them outside on my first tank and inside sump now and no noise and havent had to clean then. Good pumps

Velocity pump, hands down the most quite pump I've ever owned. You would honestly be amazed. Its external, titanium, and has an automatic heat shut off if anything goes wrong.

I'll agree the Velocity pumps are the "quietest" (dead silent) external pumps out there...(I have a T-3 and T-4, as well as Gen-X and Little Giant for comparison)...
Thomas...have you had ant noticeable caco3 build up in your pump...?
My T-4 has been running about a year now on one cleaning, no trouble, no heat, no problems (FOWLR)
My T-3 needs to be tore down cleaned every 4-6 weeks, caco3 build up to the point of stopping the impeller...(REEF)... only the T-3 not the sump return pump, or the heaters or skimmer pump...

That's a T-3...isn't it...?
Most of the people that have had problems, were with the T-3...
I've had no problems with the T-4...But My "3" looks exactly like that every 4-6 weeks...
I'm wondering if it may be tighter "tolerances" in the 3 that precipatates the build up over the 4s....

um.. velocity pumps or quiet one's...do the have any models that can handle big head pressure?? cuzz i might be setting the sump/fuge in the basement and about 20 feet away from the tanks soo... .. anyhow.. the idea i or we i should say... had the idea of making a indoor pond/funge/sump/lagoon as the filter for the main tank.. we where gonna redoo the basement too look like if it was a park... but it's only a idea soo far.. but we might just do the under the tank fuge idea..

Yep a T-3. I didn't know others were having the same problem. I'll have to relook at the spec of the T-4 and see if it will blow my 90 into fits :)
For those others that have never taken there pumps apart, it wouldn't hurt to check them. If you can put them back together.

i had a T1 that i loved for about a month... then hated it for the calcification reasons... that and mine ran really hot
i got a pressure rated iwaki and never looked back
the pressure rated iwakis are quieter and cooler than the standard iwakis... at least in my 3 different iwaki pumps experience.
