hey I know this ment to be about saltwater fish but my discus just layed eggs yesterday right now the eggs and parents are in the what was the salwater Qt but has know been converted to freshwater BT (breeding tank) I just can't wait for the eggs to hatch it's going to be awsome I think I might use this thread as a journal of the life of these discus and the stages the discus go through

you can still raise the fry to adult hood without the parents. do a search on hatching out the eggs. most people remove the parents once they have laid eggs and then help the fry along. This happens with several different types of fish that lay eggs. like the angel fish they do not have to have the parents to hatch or feed. once hatched they will still have a egg sack to feed on but you will need to figure out what you are going to feed the tiny fry. I always used newly hatched brine shrimp before they loose the egg sack for the angel fry.
It is doable just read up before they start to hatch.
I am sorry that you lost 2 fish at the same time. do you have a clue as to why the passed??

I think the ph down put in there made it so the tank had less oxygen and I think they were put in the tank too soon and there wasn't enough oxygen

my own paranoia I'm afraid i wanted to get the discus and the eggs in the bt as fast as possible so the other fish wouldnt eat the eggs
