yes yes,i know i have a 55gal tank but the volitan is 2 1/2inchs long. The pet store manager(a expert with saltwater fish)said that as long as you have a striped puffer which is small and a chainlink eel and a damsel the volitan will be fine for a 55gal tank. But he said the volitan will eat the damsel. The volitan is sooooooooo cool.

I have 2 volitans and 3 of my starter damsels are fine ...but i have 1 volitan who is like a gentle giant and my other ate my shrimp and and 1 of my damsels but that was as soon as the 2nd lion went in ..I keep mine well fed and i have no problems now in my 125g ...but it is a risk..depends on your volitan really ..mine are 9-10 in right now and don't bother anything in the tank they wait for the feeders to go in ..I know lots of people on here say stay away from feedng them feeders but mine will eat nothing but

If you keep the lion well fed, it will probably leave the damsel alone for a long time. Depending of course on the lion, but my buddy missed a feeding and next thing you know his lion was going after his fast wrasse and his chromis school.

I always suggest "caves", more like large crevices, for dwarf lions. But that is just due to my experience of dwarf lions sitting in them when they're first acclimating to the tank, or hiding behind the LR to get accustomed to the tank. My dwarf also likes sleeping in large crevices, and perching on the LR right outside of them. I am not sure about volitans, but having caves is an option, I don't think it affects the fish one way or another. You'll be fine without any. I just like to have that option for my dwarf lions when they are first introduced, after a day or two they get used to the tank and perch all over the place. So don't worry about it really.

I have lots of hiding spots for smaller fish (needed) mine will only eat feeders nothing but believe me i have tried but no luck ...they don't seem to go after anything BUT i do agree with the remark made above about if you miss a feeding LOOK OUT to the smaller fish they become feeders..Key (my thought) is keep them fed and when you first get them in your tank feed them well so they are not hungey while they are checking out the tank mates..When i feed i put the net right to the volitans and they now it's feeding,i never put a fish in with a net etc .Seems to work great for me ,i love mine.It would be better if they would eat other then feeders but ...what can you do..sit back and enjoy
