Yeah
I am super excited! Tomorrow I am getting a shipment of 5 sexy shrimp!
I have been working on getting my nitrates down for the past few months and I finally succeeded in getting them down to about 5. So finally, after 6 months I get to add something new to my tank! I am super happy and just thought I would share since so many of you helped me along the way.
IS there anything I should do to prepare for their arrival?

6months???Wha the...what took so long? If you use cured rock with enough deep sand bed. Why would it take 6months for nitrates to go down? thast crazzzy.

Sorry, I should have worded that better. Its taken me about 1.5 months to get the nitrates down, but I havent added anything new to the tank for about 6 months because I have been busy/poor/scared/etc.

wooo exciting time! Only thing you need to have ready is whatever you're using to acclimate them to the tank. Typically a tub and a container (and maybe a net).

Okay~ Here is another question...Is it okay to use the net to scoop them from the acclimation bucket and place them in the DT? I want to allow as little of their shipping water mixed with the acclimation water into the DT as possible. I did this once with a peppermint shrimp and they just sorta go limp when out of the water, but seem fine once they are back in....

I don't like using nets, especially with shrimp. Their claws, legs can get out up in the netting. My CBS lost a claw this way. You can use a paper cup with a hole in the bottom to drain the water before adding the shrimp to your DT.

Okay
SO I drip acclimated my new friends today for about 2.5 hours and then used the cup method to add them to the tank.... I didnt have any paper cups on hand so I used plastic, which may have been a mistake because the edges of the plastic were rather sharp once I poked the holes in the bottom. I have had the lights off since I added them so hopefully they will all be there when the lights come on tommorrow morning! Gosh, they are soooo tiny!

Yes! Everything has worked out fabulous, thanks for asking....
My 3 sexies are hosting my only coral, button polyps. THey are really cute. I had orignally ordered 5 sexies but 2 arrived dead. It was really sad. But I am happy to report that the other 3 seem to be doing great. I hope I acclimated them well (followed the acclimation flash on SWF.com to a T) and that they will live long healthy happy shrimp lives.
I would post a pic, but my camera is in the shop and its crummy anyways. Stinks being a newlywed with no money....

All 3 sexies are still doing great, and they seem to be getting more adventurous. Last night when I added my new GBTA, two of them climbed in there. My clownfish even tolerated them for a bit, but I havent seen them in there since. One is now "hosting" my thermometer and the other two are still in the button polyps ..... Funny little shrimps!
