Finally got my taxes done! And I don't owe the government anything more, which is good... I even got all my stuff down to where I only loaned the government 200 bucks interest free. Which is even better.

I submitted mine in late January. I have never owed Uncle Sam at all. My returns are always high 4 digits. I file as fast as I can.

That is stupid, why let the government keep your money for a whole year for free?

Not as easy as it sounds. I get a refund every year now after having to pay $2,500 - $3,000 each year. That's because no matter how many times I've tried, my wife and I xcan't seem to get our exemptions set to where we can balance it as close to zero as possible. My salary fluctuates every year, as does her's (raises, bonuses, etc.) So I just said screw it and put both of our's to zero exemptions. What's stupid is the IRS can fine you for not taking out enough money for taxes (meaning if you owe over a certain percentage of taxes based on your income, there's a penalty that can be accessed), but there's no penalty that I know of if you get a big refund back. Think that goes back to your logic. If you owe too much, then that's money the IRS doesn't have in their piggy bank to use as they please, but if they owe you, it's free money to them because you let them borrow it. Win/win situation for the Feds.

I will be doing mine tonight. You would think that this close to the 15th that Turbo Tax would be discounted but it isn't. I guess I will try out the online version this year.

Is it? Remember california last year, and numerous states this year? Not sending back refunds or delaying them.... It is only a matter of time, if we continue on this course that it starts happening to the feds too...
Sorry it just rubs me wrong when people are gettting BOHICA-ed and think they're winning...

If you don't itemize your deductions, TurboTax has a free online version to do a 1040EZ at no cost. My daughter used it to do her taxes for the first time this year, and she got her whopping $12 back the other day. Know anyone else with TurboTax? I buy it every year, and the license states that one copy can do up to five returns. Of course TurboTax allows this number thinking that there might be enough family members who need to do their taxes. Check with a family member and see if anyone of them bought it. You can use their copy, and buy them a six pack for the use.

I actually have two "family members" that said I can "borrow" their copy but they haven't brought it to me yet. I like Turbo since it keeps up with my AMT. I have been using it for many years know and I do itemize. I will send one of my "family members" and email right now to see if they brought it in today.

Did mine via TurboTax this year right at the end of January. The federal was free to efile and I think the state was around $30. Got my fed back within a week of filing. NYS delayed their payments and finally just got it back last week.
