I'm just glad that someone reminded me to not forget about the closing costs from my refi last year!!! Cause I forgot!! I paid points, pre-prepaid interest and pro-rated taxes. I might actually get some money back this year.

If you don't itemize your deductions, TurboTax has a free online version to do a 1040EZ at no cost. My daughter used it to do her taxes for the first time this year, and she got her whopping $12 back the other day. Know anyone else with TurboTax? I buy it every year, and the license states that one copy can do up to five returns. Of course TurboTax allows this number thinking that there might be enough family members who need to do their taxes. Check with a family member and see if anyone of them bought it. You can use their copy, and buy them a six pack for the use.

The IRS has set it up where these tax prep companies let you efile for free if you make under 56k and are doing a basic return like 1040 or 1040ez. Turbo tax's version of this is difficult to get to. Basically you have to set up a new account or it funnels you to their pay site. (at least that is what it did while I was in college.)
I used the small business one, and it worked pretty good.

Brilliant hypothesis Skippy. We can add tax planning to the list of things your knowledge of is seriously lacking

To use the free-file version you have to enter it thru irs.gov

Yep, But why is it that the Post Office takes 10 days to get a letter across town but has a return to the IRS office the next day

Reef you have to admit that was pretty funny. For the record Obama seems to have left my tax return alone, the state of Oregon however is another story. Our governor is even trying to keep the surplus taxes they over-collected, thankfully he was shot down and next election he will be gone.

Well I almost finished my taxes last night. I am confused on the property taxes in the closing costs. I will have to talk to our tax guy here at work today. But I am almost done!

Don't forget to see if you qualify for the rebate on the 1040-M

I will have to look to see what that rebate is. I would think Turbo Tax would take care of it. I almost missed deducting my oldest daughter's after school care. I will add that in tonight.
Well I just read this if this is what you are referring to:
http://www.tipsity.com/taxes/2010/ir...ork-pay-credit
Not completely clear on "making work pay credit" but I will see what amounts in in my line 5 to see if Turbo gave me the credit in line 14.

I am going to assume it took care of it but I will verify. Thanks for pointing it out.
