Yellow Belly Black Hippo Tang?

I bought a yellow belly blue hippo about 4 months ago. Since then most of his blue has dissapeared and been relaced with black. Is this normal, rare or happened to anyone else? He eats tons and appears fine. I have 2 pic's of him and one of my regular blue hippo to help show the difference in color. Let me know what you think.

never seen such a thing in my life! I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with it being a yellow belly but sure as hell would like to know whats going on there.

I feed alot of foods. New life spectrum pellets, mrine cuisine, emerald entree, mysis, all soaked in garlic, zoe, and selcon. I also feed grape culurpa and algae sheets. I rotate between them. He has doubled in size since I got him.

Hmm....was thinking the color variation may have been due to the food. Looks like a good mix though so that kind of rules that out.

Bump....
I gave this a few hours, expecting to come back and see this mystery solved. Nobody has seen this before...
It's new to me.

I've seen them with more pronounced black coloration (usually towards the head).
Definately not common, but I don't think it's the only fish like it.

So there is nothing wrong with him? Also do you think his color will continue to change, I have only had him 4 months?

I wouldn't mind having a blue tang like that. Something different not the same ol' blue you get. In my opinion I think it looks nice.

Very unique. I've never seen anything like that before. If he truly is having a good and balanced diet and he eats and acts well, then I would not worry about it.

He lives in a 180 so I don't think he will out grow the tank. If he is a rare breed I wish I could breed him and have babies to share. I will post a pic in a few weeks to see if he changes much. He still has a few inches to grow. right now he is only 3-4 inches.
