Yellow Gorgonian Question

My yellow gorgon has been lifeless for about a month now - meaning I have seen no polyps emerge, and the tips of the branches are deteriorating. My question is whether or not this thing is dead or just dormant? Is there something I can do to ascertain whether is is still alive or just slowly rotting in my tank? I don't want to put food in the tank for it if it is not going to eat. BTW - what is the recommened food for these and what particulart supplements do they need? I know this is a broad sort of question, but any help would be appreciated.

You can cut off the top. Try to stimulate it with some food and a turkey baster, hopfully the polyops will come out.
I always feed small food, anything really, even crushed fish food.
They need to be feed at least 2 times a week to live.
