Hi. Attached is a photo of a 4 month old yellow thing. It started out as one tube and over the past month has grown another. I don't see anything going into or out of the opening. If you know what it is, please help me out and if it is a bad thing, please tell me how to take care of it. thanks very much! Steve

sponge, nothing to fret about, it is actually very beneficial. It does a great deal of filtering and you are lucky to have some spontaneously grow.

some sponges actually gain protection by growing amidst zoanthids, by picking up their bad flavor, and potentially some of the palytoxins that the zoa may excrete.
you may want to observe it though and make sure it is not smothering your zoas. just because its considered generally harmless doesnt mean it cant accidently smother your zoas as it grows.

Assuming it is smothering the zoas. How would you remove them?

pull it out of the tank and let it sit in the air for 5-7 minutes, it'll kill the sponge but the zoas would live.
