how tolerant is the yellow mimic tang to freshwater dips and hyposolitity, and if i were to do a FW dip should i streight hard water (provided ph, temp and chemicals are adjusted) or should i use some water from my fresh water fish tanks?

IMO, tangs normally react well to both procedures when done ''properly''.
Best to first acclimate the fish to the water in the tank that you will do the hypo in.
Then prepare the dip by adjusting the pH and temp. to match that of the hypo tank. IMO, best to use new RO, not DI, water for dipping.
After the dip, you can then place the fish directly in the hypo tank and begin.
