yellow sea cucumber

i have had a yellow sea cucumber for nearly a year he/she/it has grown a little over that time yesterday when i got to the office it was split in two i thought maybe this was its way of breeding but i have no real answers it has been very still ever since ive had it and still the two pieces have yet to move the original mouth is still opening i havent seen the other piece open is this thing breeding or dieing?

Hard to say. Yellow sea cucumbers are more likely the small yellow sea apples. These critters, when happy, rarely move locations. More like an anenomie. If they have the right food, water movement, light...they stay. If not, they move.
I don't know about the splitting part though.
