Yellow Tang Concern

I was given a Yellow Tang as a gift from an individual, who obviously did not understand that it was too small for my 29 gallon tank. I wish I could take it back to the LFS however it is out of state. The potential problem is that, the tank has just conditioned and the fish has some brown color to the area just above his eyes under the fin. I am not sure if he rubbed up against some algae on the inside of the tank or if it a developing illness. Has anyone seen this before. Thanks in advance for the input.

 I am no expert but my tang had the same thing and soon after died of ammonia/nitrite poisoning, what are your water parameters?

Sammy,
believe me i know the poor thing is in a small tank, however like I said before it was a gift. As far as lip color they are yellow, the browning is just above its eyes and under the fin.

Here is a pic of my tang. Notice the white spot on the tail and the brown area as I originally stated. Does anyone have any ideas, or has anyone seen this. Please let me know, i'm losin' sleep. Any help would be appreciated.

The white spot that I see on his tail in the picture is his "scalpel".
All tangs have a scalpel hence the name "surgeonfish".
As for the brown discoloration? I'm at a loss...

Thanx for the insight montreal tang, has anyone seen or heard of similar situations to the brown area on my tang. He was acting a bit strange today as if he was having a brief seizure around his mouth area.

Iv noticed on mine around his eyes seem a little darker. Just keep an eye on him for a few days. Make sure your water params are good. If he seems active and eats it may just be nothing. As far as your having a seizure Im not sure about that! You can always setup a QT tank with hypo to be on the safe side. Then move him to a larger tank!

Hey Guys and Gals,
The unsightly brown spot on my tang's forehead is gonzo. Woohoo! However, I just lost my Royal Gramma, this is what I get from buying from a non-reputable LFS.

Sounds like you just got that tank cycled? What are your water readings?
I'd see if you can find another larger home for that pretty fish. The splotches are likely a result of stress.
What are feeding the tang?
