Yellow Tang in a 10g

So last night I went over to my neighbors house, and he just started a salt water tank. The crazy thing is the LFS sold this 10 gallon tank setup to him with all the other stuff PLUS they sold him a YELLOW TANG right away. I tried to explain to my neighbor the problem with the tang, but he said the LFS guy said it would be fine and he wouldn't listen to me.
Should I try one more time to explain this to him or I am seriously considering a rescue mission of some sort for the tang. Any ideas guys and gals?

Thats why i never trust my lfs...the are always trying to bs you for your money. Tell him a yellow tang can grow up to 8-9" and wont have enough swimming space in such a small tank. Althought it has been done, most people will agree that even a 55 gallon tank is not suitable for a tang.

If he keeps that tang it WILL die. He hasnt given his tank anytime to cycle or stablize. It will soon stress out and die.

the tang will die quite shortly. im a newbie, but all i read here is that all tangs need a min, of 75g.
try to rescue the fish before it dies.

Yeah, I was over at my daughter's friend's house and she had a porcupine puffer in a ten gal. tank. It was approx. 5" long and I just heard from my daughter that the poor fish died. I felt so bad. I wish that I was set up to take it but I don't think she would have given it up anyway.

I definitely wouldn't give up. Explain to him that tangs are claustrophobic and definitely do not do well in such a small space. They'll stress themselves out to the point of death. If he doesn't listen, keep bothering him and perhaps he'll cave in. Just because he thinks the tang looks nice and pretty in his 10g, shouldn't the happiness of the fish in question come first? I think he's being a bit selfish. I would be inclined to tell him so, too. How about giving us all his email? :D J/k

Show your friend this website and introduce him to the tang police.
Maybe if he reads what has happened to other peoples tangs he may change his mind.
It will die for sure.

Unfortunatley, most LFS are in it for the money first. Little if any consideration is given to the animals. There are some exceptions to this. as some lfs do care about the animals.
For example, when I first got into this hobby 30 years ago, the lfs sold a 29 gallon tank to me. I purchased two damsels to cycle the tank. Afte the tank cycled..they told me it would be okay to purchase the following and add them all at the same time: Tomato CLown, Sebea Anemone, Longnose BUtterfly. 5 Line Angel, Fllame Hawk and a Seahorse. Everything was dead in about 2 weeks! I was told I could have one inch of fish per 1 inch lenght of the tank.

I hate when the workers in some lfs think they know everything but as you listen to them they do so many things wrong but you keep quiet but wanting to yell at them. Basicallt all they want is your money so they will tell you all this bs just to get it from you. Most of the time new hobbyist get tricked into listening to them...I used to be one of them...Now when i look back i feel like such an idiot.

I agree with the "know-it-all" LFS employees. Unfortunately, the only store here that sells saltwater supplies is *****. The guy there seemed to have some knowledge, but he told my dad that live rock wasn't that beneficial and didn't need to be in my tank. He then proceeded to con my dad into buying a huge piece of lava rock. Did the guy really think I was going to put one huge piece of red rock in my tank and call it good? I really have no idea...perhaps he had good intentions, but I'd say he needs to do a bit more studying up. :D
